Description
FPSO is a vessel that is used to load oil products and fuel from sea. A Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) is a floating vessel used by the offshore industry for the processing and storage of oil and gas. These vessels have modern equipments to do necessary operation on the fuel like break down, heat operation and etc.
The FPSO vessel is designed to receive oil or gas produced from nearby platforms or templates, process it, and store it until the oil or gas can be offloaded onto a tanker or transported through a pipeline.
FPSO’s can be a conversion of an oil tanker, or can be a vessel built specially for the application.
Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessels are particularly effective in remote or deep-water locations where seabed pipelines are not cost effective, the FPSO can easily be moved to a new location, and they can also be used economically in smaller oil fields.
Vessels that are for used for oil storage purposes only are designated as FSU’s which stands for ‘Floating Storage Unit’
